Artemis H. Malekpour earned her B.A. degree in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1994, with a minor in chemistry. From 1994 to 1997, she worked at UNC's Frank Porter Graham Child Development Center on the Head Start Transition and North Carolina Smart Start Initiative projects, where she conducted family interviews and child assessments. While there, she also earned her master's degree in healthcare administration with a concentration in mental health issues, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Public Health in 1997. During that time, she also co-authored a book chapter, "Public and Private Sector Involvement in Managed Mental Health Care," in Managed Care & Public Health.

Artemis then spent the next four years in the Department of Psychiatry at UNC Hospitals, coordinating and conducting research in child and adolescent psychosis. She worked closely with children and adolescents learning to cope with a variety of psychiatric disorders and the legal issues their illness and conduct presented. It was there she decided to combine her psychology background with the law. She entered Duke University School of Law in 2001, where she became involved in public interest issues. She also developed an independent study, interviewing jurors who had served on death penalty cases, before earning her J.D. degree with honors in 2004.

During the summer between her second and third years of law school, Artemis completed an internship with trial consultants David Ball and Debra Miller. After graduating and passing the North Carolina Bar Exam, she officially joined the team in the fall of 2004. They eventually became the trial consulting firm of Miller Malekpour & Ball, where Artemis specializes in focus groups, case strategy, and jury selection. She and her two partners use a unique "think-tank" approach to deal with a case's weaknesses and maximize its strengths by employing the techniques set forth in one of the best-selling trial advocacy books, David Ball on Damages: The Essential Update, as well as in methods emerging from their ongoing research.
