Improvisation can be an important element of mediation practice, and there are several ways in which mediation practice correlates to improvisational performance. In this webinar, attorney Joey Novick and skilled improv facilitator Izzy Gesell share how you can embrace the improvisational aspects of mediation and obtain better results for your clients. Their presentation will focus on two central themes: (1) mediators often use improvisational techniques, and (2) by being improvisational, mediators can create environments that would encourage the parties themselves to a mediated resolution. By better understanding these techniques, you’ll be better prepared to navigate mediation toward a more just outcome for your client.

Attendees will learn the basics of improvisation and, through guided theater games, will get the opportunity to practice these skills in the comfort of their own homes. Improv skills include using “yes, and…” prompts, learning the rules of improvisation, and active listening. All of these skills will be tied back to mediation. This program will also include a Q&A session with the presenters.

Joey and Izzy have worked with lawyers from across the country to bring improv skills to their practice. Here is some of the recent feedback they have received:

"Thank you for an outstanding program for our AAJ-NJ conference in Atlantic City. The feedback from attendees was very positive, and we look forward to having you back again."
- Cornelius J. Larkin, Executive Director, American Association for Justice, New Jersey

"Your Improv for Lawyers program was well received, and the perfect way to kick off our 10th anniversary conference."
- Laurie N. Robinson Haden, Corporate Counsel Women of Color, Founder & CEO
